Case: Terminal yard optimization at Tanjung Pelepas

Our project team for a yard optimization feasibility study at the yard in Tanjung Pelepas had been conducted by experienced project managers and business analysts in the following way:

• Pre-study on location. At the pre-study we learned about the problem in higher detail. We meassured times and distances for average movements. Then we gathers some production data and made a mock-up to show the basic ideas and determine if the project was feasible at all.
• Implementation of prototype where initial strategies for cost savings have been developed. During the implementation we had continuously contact with the users and data providers. This made it easier to understand data and spot errors in the data.
• On-site demonstration and evaluation of prototype software to facilitate user feedback.
• Final implementation is improved by swift feedback on scope, data, and business rules.

The project is now going into the implementation stage for production roll-out.
